Waaaaaay back when at Olympia High School, I had a class with Miss Vrba where we learned to make a design and then a screen and print with ink. I made a notepad with a swimming icon on it. I got to stack up the paper and apply glue to one end to make the pad. It was pretty cool…obviously if it’s stuck in my memory bank for 35+ years.
Fast forward to last year I went to Kansas City to NCECA which is a pottery conference for makers and educators. I learned A LOT-more than I will have time to or remember to attempt. One of the cool things is a giant room of vendors selling their pottery making wares. Turning me loose in that room is the equivalent to opening a toy store to your child and saying “go wild”! Oh the glee! I bought several new tools and materials that I have tried this past year but one I had tucked away and forgotten was discovered recently.
Screen printing on pottery!! WHAT?? Yes…a flexible sheet that wraps to fit the pot and BAM images appear after rubbing the glaze across the screen.

And my favorite of this experiment:

Now to channel back to 1980-something and Ms. Vrba and figure out how to make my own designs!!
